Taxes

Taxes are too high in California. We have been voted numerous times as one of, if not the most, taxed state in the union. In what I’m sure was initially a desire to provide for the less fortunate among us, our tax structure has become a mill stone around the neck of private enterprise and the citizens of California. Businesses are being driven out of our state taking their jobs with them and are being welcomed by our neighboring states with promises of tax credits, no income taxes and other incentives.

In the mean time the legislators in Sacramento see the solution to our shrinking revenues as being higher taxes and more revenue sources rather than cutting spending and taking decisive action to convince our employers from leaving the state. In short, they are taking every golden egg the goose lays and are now eyeing the goose.

The only lasting solution is to cut spending in every area of government except public safety. We also have to cut taxes and show a desire to remake the way we budget in Sacramento to curtail the large increases in our spending from prior years. For businesses to return to California they must see a demonstrated desire on the part of government to become more fiscally responsible.
